HSBC's New Boss Defends Appointment



I'm awfully sorry. But we simply can't give the top job to a chap with that hair.

As an associate at Rothschild who used to work for MS, I particularly enjoyed the comment of the institutional shareholder who said 'it almost looks as if campaigns are being fought.'

There's a lot of blood on a lot of the finest Wilton carpets from Wall Street through the City to HK.

It's not only the abundance of hair but also the colour - do you think it's natural? How many men of 56 post Goldman have a full head of not very grey hair?

The only GS partner I know is a silver fox at 45. He's aged 10 years in the last 18 months. Rumour has it that one of the summer houses in New England is on the market too.

So far I'm going grizzled rather than bald - or "distinguished", as some people prefer to refer to it.
