Follow the Leader

Is it only I who am scared by the resemblance between the brainwashed residents of the Village and those who take to Hong Kong's streets to enjoy a nice day out – a slap-up seafood lunch followed by a spot of pro-government slogan shouting?

Ulie, you fool!

These are a bunch from the HK Netherlands supporter's club, off to watch the game in 3D at MegaBox.

Oh, sod it! Now I understand why the bloke in Accounts looked at me funny when I asked him if they supported the government.

"I think so," he replied. "But they don't like the Germans."

Free seafood? My invite must have gotten lost in the mail.

When the Olympic torch came to the US, busloads of Chinese students studying in US universities followed, shouting pro-Chinese slogans in response to the free-Tibet rallies. They were very organized and succeeded in outnumbering and overwhelming everyone else. I suppose that they would be even more successful in places where free speech isn't quite so free.

They tried to bribe my friend's mom with a free seafood dinner years ago -- maybe after the 2003 democracy march?
You figure they would have upgraded their bribes by now.
Well, better than bullying schoolchildren into attending rallies, I guess.

@ Architart -- I find some of the nationalism among overseas Chinese students to be really troubling.
